CPSI training focuses on public safety, the disaster preparedness cycle, illegal drug interdiction, community engagement, and enhanced quality of life for all. CPSI responds to local and national training needs, working closely with long-time partners, including the U.S. Department of Justice, Department of Homeland Security, Department of Defense, Department of State and others, to deliver training throughout the United States, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands and Central America. Lynch released a video statement today on the FBI’s newly announced 2015 Hate Crime Statistics as well as on recent media reports of alleged hate crimes and harassment around the country. The statement reminds individuals to report these incidents to both local law enforcement and the Justice Department in order to ensure that career investigators and prosecutors are able to enforce hate crime statutes at the local, state and federal level. Central American Police Commanders and U.S. Embassy Officials To Visit the Center for Public Safety Innovation The Center for Public Safety Innovation (CPSI) at St. Petersburg College’s Allstate Center Campus hosted a two-day training event with high-ranking Central American law enforcement leaders. The training was part of an ongoing, multi-year partnership between CPSI, the Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement (INL), and the U.S. Embassy in El Salvador designed to bring community policing initiatives to that region to combat gang violence and drug crime and improve the relationship between the national police and the community. The Color of Guilt The Center for Public Safety Innovation’s Multimedia Department has received two 37th Annual Telly Awards for the video they created as part of The Color of Guilt project. The video, made possible by the Bureau of Justice Assistance, won the 2016 Silver Award in the Social Issues category and a 2016 Bronze People’s Telly Award. The video and website deal with the complex issue of disproportionate minority contact. Videographer Doug Brumbaugh, who is also an Emmy award winner, is joined by producer Doug Long, Steve Veloff and Jeremy Writt on the project.
